Elisabeth Bentley founded Marginalia Pictures in 2016 to bring new visions and methods into legacy filmmaking. Her writing and producing career includes producing A HIDDEN LIFE which premiered in competition at Cannes 2019 and was released by Fox Searchlight. Previous work includes producing BEAUTIFUL DARLING (2010) about Candy Darling, Warhol superstar and transgender pioneer and writing the screenplay for NANKING (2008) a doc/narrative synthesis about the Japanese invasion of China in 1937.
Bentley was nominated for a WGA Award for writing NANKING, was nominated for Best Feature for A HIDDEN LIFE at the Independent Spirit Awards and won best documentary for BEAUTIFUL DARLING at the Chicago Film Festival. Her films have been invited to screen at the Berlinale, Sundance, MoMA, the Film Society of Lincoln Center, Telluride and Toronto in addition to numerous other festivals.
Bentley’s essays have appeared in the Times of India and the LA Times. She received her AB from Harvard and her MFA from the School of Cinematic Arts at USC. Her work has also been supported by The Michael C. Rockefeller Fellowship and the Yaddo Foundation.
